Blog Awards :)

Hello Everyone!

I feel like I start off every post apologizing for not blogging as much as I’d like to but I had exams and I aced the first one so hopefully I’m off the hook? ANYWHOZERS I have so many blog post ideas coming up and I have yet to blog about my exciting SWAP so stay tuned πŸ™‚ I do update my instagram more frequently though so make sure you follow me a @livelightandbeauty!

So I have only been blogging for a few months so I’m fairly new to the blogosphere (I’m surprised thats a word, there are no red squigglies underneath [squigglies is not a word]), so when I was nominated by Nail LuxxeΒ to receive the “Very Inspiring Blogger” AND “The Versatile Blogger” award I was so honored thank you so much! Just knowing that there are people in other countries reading my jibber jabber is insane so I take this as an enormous compliment and as a driving force for me to definitely start posting even more! Okay I’m done with my oscar acceptance speech, but thanks again Nail Luxxe!

Okay so in order to accept these awards I have tooooooo 1. Display the pictures [CHECK] 2. Thank the wonderful blogger than nominated me [CHECK] 3. State 7 things about myself…

1. I come from a huge, loud Arab family (I’m egyptian)

2. I’m pre-med and studying nutrition at Rutgers University in New Jersey

3. I have an unhealthy obsession with makeup, namely nail polish. I thank God I am not living independently because if I was I would not have anyone to monitor how much money I spend on that stuff and I would end up broke and on the streets living on my pile nail polish.

4. I tend to babble a lot especially if you get me started on a topic I’m very passionate about so people describe me as either bubbly or obnoxious, but I’ll take either.

5. I love skiing in the winter, that about the only sport I still keep up with but I used to play soccer for about 7 years, softball for 2 years and I ran track on and off. One thing I hated though was that my parents let me quit any sport I joined, which is ironic because I loved them for it back then, but I still wish I could have kept up with soccer.

6. I’m convinced I was an accident. I’m 19, my sister is 30 and my brother is 26. They are both married and both have kids lol. So my sister has two daughters and my brother has one daughter and I love them all to death. It’s funny because whenever I go out with them people think I’m a teen mom #auntyswag

7. I’m a personality chameleon. Because I love getting along with everyone I meet I know when to dial back my large personality when someone is more shy and vice versa. IM FRIENDLY GET TO KNOW ME πŸ™‚

AND FINALLY 4. I must nominate 10 Other Bloggers to receive the “Versatile Blogger” and “Very Inspiring Blog” Awards:

1. I renominate Nail Luxxe πŸ™‚

2. Eeek Nail PolishΒ

3. Polish Alcoholic

4. Nail Art For Funn

5. Cosmeticaitlin

6. Bubble Gum and Pink

7. In the Gray Areas

8. 9 To 5 Nails

9. Crafty Nail

10. Bewitchery Blog

Thanks again so much for this sweet recognition, I can’t wait to blog some more πŸ™‚

Mix and Match Ombre and Braided NOTD

With school just beginning this week, I was a mess of depression and stress acne. This cloudy weather has not been doing me any good either 😦 SO, I used my own form of relaxation/stress alleviation/pampering which is gettin’ my nails did ;). I dove into my nail polish collection and knew I needed a neon and just happy pink colors and looking at this mani makes me happy even now!

photo-10

The base of my thumb and pinky nails is Essie’s “Van D’Go” which is becoming one of my favorites. It’s not quite a pink and not quite a peach I just love it. Then, since I just bought a bundle of makeup wedges I did an ombre effect on my pointer and ringer fingers. I used “Van D’Go,” China Glaze’s “Flip Flop Fantasy,” and Sally Hansen’s, “Coral Reef.” I painted this on the sponge in lines the width of the brush, overlapping each color and dabbed them on my nails. Miss Jen Fabulous does a great tutorial for this check out her video!

For the Middle Finger I did a braided accent with “Van D’Go,” Essie’s “Penny Talk,” and “Coral Reef.” This finger is a little harder to explain so I’ll just link Cutepolish’s youtube tutorial which is the one I followed to create this look. (Love her youtube tutorials by the way. If you live under a rock and don’t know who she is CHECK HER OUT.)

Hope you all enjoy, and pray with me that Spring comes sooner rather than later!

Drug Store Polish Haul!

‘Ello Poppets! So, I had ONE thing on my shopping list. Just one. All I had to do was go get hair dye, of course I forgot to buy it and instead bought 6 new polishes. Whoops? Whatever, I remembered to go back and get it? So I swatched and reviewed these drugstore polishes for ya below. I’m still working on my polish collection so I was trying to add some variety, so there is no uniform theme here. I literally went down the nail polish aisles at Walgreen’s and shrieked “OH I LIKE THIS,” and got them πŸ™‚ I spent about $15 for 6 bottles of polish which is such a bargain so I don’t feel TOO guilty πŸ™‚

Vintage Rose Nail Art Tutorial

So I’m sad I haven’t really posted much lately, but I definitely want to start stepping up my game and posting more nail designs and makeup tutorials. I also just missed coloring all over my face and nails way too much πŸ˜‰

I’ve been dying to try the vintage flower trend for the longest time and I finally got the colors I wanted to try it out! I find this look is the prettiest and most true to trend with pastels. This is my first go at this look and it was a pretty easy design if you have a steady hand. Hope you guys like it πŸ™‚

New Year’s Purple Glitter Manicure

I LOVE the holidays because then I get to see all of the awesome themed nail designs. I’ve been loving all the snowflakes, snowmen and reindeer I’ve been seeing for the winter/Christmas nails and with New Year’s coming up I’m loving all the GLITTER that’s been popping up.

MOTN (Manicure of the Night)

MOTN (Manicure of the Night)

To stick with the “Mermaid” theme I had going in my previous posts, I did this mani! The base is Essie’s “Dive Bar” which is a GORGEOUS deep blue color with hints of teal and purple sparkle that come up so beautifully in this photo. Then, I took Sally Hansen’s “Celeb City,” started at the middle of each side of my ring finger and thumb and did a quick swipe to either side. Such a simple but cute design. Plus the silver kind of looks like mermaid fins no? Maybe that’s a stretch… but the polish is called Dive Bar so we’ll say that’s the mermaid part πŸ˜‰

Mermaid OOTN

Mermaid OOTN

This was the outfit that I wore for my best friend’s 21st birthday. I love that the Bar III skirt is a little longer than most form-fitting, high-waisted skirts and it’s vibrant and mermaid-like colors inspired me to create the nail and make up looks in the other blog posts πŸ™‚ My necklace is from BCBG, my watch is Movado and my heels are black suede (which is a great combo for the winter) Franco Sarto. I can’t remember where I got my top though 😦
